Being in the business of risk management, business continuity and resiliency is critical in our space. This is a key reason why we chose Sozo Hosting. Their robust systems integration and data backup practices brought us back online quickly when we recently experienced a catastrophic system outage that was no fault of Sozo. Their focus on our business and the service they provide has been far greater than any other hosting company we have ever worked with. Sid Feagin
Aside from Web Hosting servers, Linux is often used as the operating system of choice when it comes to Dedicated Servers. By offering Linux Dedicated Hosting servers, a hosting provider can offer lower prices due to the lack of license fees and can also offer customized kernels, making the servers more secure, since the provider already knows what hardware components will be used.
Start by understanding the difference between a Linux server and a Windows server. When you select a Linux server, your dedicated web server will run on an open-source software operating system that has been around since the early 1990s. Today, Linux is actually the most popular choice in operating system for those in need of software for their dedicated server. This remains true not just for dedicated servers for business websites or email hosting, but for gaming and other applications as well.
Launched in late 2003, CentOS is a community project with the goals of rebuilding the source code for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) into an installable Linux distribution and to provide timely security updates for all included software packages. To put in more bluntly, CentOS is nothing more than a clone of RHEL. The only technical difference between the two is branding - CentOS replaces all Red Hat trademarks and logos with its own. But the connection between RHEL and CentOS is not immediately visible on the CentOS web site; due to trademark laws, Red Hat is referred to as a "Prominent North American Enterprise Linux Vendor", instead of its proper name. Nevertheless, the relations between Red Hat and CentOS remain amicable and many CentOS developers are in active contact with Red Hat engineers.
Our top-notch host might not be the cheapest, but Liquid Web excels by offering the utmost functionality, flexibility, and customer support for a price that we’re not sure why it isn’t higher. The premier host even includes perks such as built-in backups, enhanced security, DDoS protection, SSD RAID 1 storage, and the CloudFlare CDN.
Choosing between the Linux or Windows operating system for your server typically boils down to what you’re hosting and what languages or technology you need to support. As an open-source platform, Linux has a much broader range of support and flexibility — in fact, Linux is the L in the all-too-popular LAMP stack, followed by Apache, MySQL, and PHP, Perl, or Python.
Being an open source, what lacks in CentOS is its branding and artwork due to copyright distribution laws. But, in spite of it, many Red hat developers still work on CentOS. CentOS is not involved in legal issues unlike Red Hat Linux, i.e. Red Hat is a licensed version and is available only to paid subscribers and it releases its source code under the general public license.
Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated uses the same code base as Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, but is installed in an opinionated way - optimized for performance, scalability, and security. Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated is hosted in the public cloud and managed by Red Hat. Some options and administrative functions are restricted or unavailable on OpenShift Dedicated. A Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform subscription entitles you to host and manage the software on your own infrastructure.
