What does CentOS stand for? It stands for Community Enterprise Operating System, which is the most preferred choice for all the Linux distribution on the Internet. It is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and is therefore a free operating system that is supported by a large community online. Because CentOS is the free version of Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), it does not come with any support by default, like you might expect from RHEL.
