Throughout most of the 1990's, tech pundits, largely unaware of Linux's potential, dismissed it as a computer hobbyist project, unsuitable for the general public's computing needs. Through the efforts of developers of desktop management systems such as KDE and GNOME, office suite project OpenOffice.org and the Mozilla web browser project, to name only a few, there are now a wide range of applications that run on Linux and it can be used by anyone regardless of his/her knowledge of computers. Those curious to see the capabilities of Linux can download a live CD version called Knoppix . It comes with everything you might need to carry out day-to-day tasks on the computer and it needs no installation. It will run from a CD in a computer capable of booting from the CD drive. Those choosing to continue using Linux can find a variety of versions or "distributions" of Linux that are easy to install, configure and use. Information on these products is available in our distribution section and can be found by selecting the mainstream/general public category.
Choosing between the Linux or Windows operating system for your server typically boils down to what you’re hosting and what languages or technology you need to support. As an open-source platform, Linux has a much broader range of support and flexibility — in fact, Linux is the L in the all-too-popular LAMP stack, followed by Apache, MySQL, and PHP, Perl, or Python.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux, also known as RHEL, is a Linux distribution developed for the commercial market, including mainframes. The first version of RHEL bearing the Red Hat name was originally marketed as "Red Hat Linux Advanced Server," but in 2003 the product was rebranded to Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, or RHEL AS. At that time two additional variants were added, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Edge Server (RHEL ES) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation (RHEL WS).
The typical installation of CentOS as performed in this tutorial will be based on the CentOS 7 DVD ISO image. You can burn the image to a DVD or copy it to a bootable USB drive. The installation covers the process of installing CentOS 7 on UEFI based machine. The same installation procedure can be successfully applied on old BIOS motherboards or on UEFI systems with Legacy Mode or CSM (Compatibility Support Module) option enabled.
Being an open source, what lacks in CentOS is its branding and artwork due to copyright distribution laws. But, in spite of it, many Red hat developers still work on CentOS. CentOS is not involved in legal issues unlike Red Hat Linux, i.e. Red Hat is a licensed version and is available only to paid subscribers and it releases its source code under the general public license.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.2 was released this week, on Tuesday, December 6th, and contains a number of updates to the May 2011 release of RHEL 6.1. Launched in late 2003, CentOS is a community project with the goals of rebuilding the source code for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) into an installable Linux distribution and to provide timely security updates for all included software packages. To put in more bluntly, CentOS is nothing more than a clone of RHEL. The only technical difference between the two is branding - CentOS replaces all Red Hat trademarks and logos with its own. But the connection between RHEL and CentOS is not immediately visible on the CentOS web site; due to trademark laws, Red Hat is referred to as a "Prominent North American Enterprise Linux Vendor", instead of its proper name. Nevertheless, the relations between Red Hat and CentOS remain amicable and many CentOS developers are in active contact with Red Hat engineers.
Each and every switch port on our network is monitored for bandwidth, errors, discards and other anomalies. You have 24×7 web-based access to graphs that detail your bandwidth utilization by speed, and data transfer over time. You can also monitor your server health (CPU, disk use, memory, disk I/O, system load average). As an additional service, we can set alerts for you if thresholds are exceeded.
